News from Michael Partington - Variety is the spice of life!

I have my finger in a number of pies at the moment, here are some opportunities to have a taste!

Last performance tonight of Seatle Opera's production of Rossini's Il Barbieri di Sviglia. Instead of the usual 2 numbers with guitar I've found myself onstage for a lot more in this fabulous production. The Seattle Times generously single me out for adding "both musical expertise and genuine period flavor." Heres a greatpromotional video, keep an eye for me in the bottom right hand corner of your screen for about the last 4 seconds!

Next weekend I'm heading up north of the border for a solo concert in Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast. Details are here.

The following weekend I'll be down in the Bay Area for a couple of performances with the fabulous Marc Teicholz. He'll be back in the Northwest for another tour with me next April, stay tuned for details! November 12 we'll be here, and Groupmusing somehere on the 11th...

Very excited to announce that on December 7 I'll be playing a brand new work for guitar and wind ensemble by my good friend Stephen Goss entitled Concerto of Colours. Stephen says the impetus behind the piece "is the vivid, resonant landscape of the American South West. There are five short, highly contrasting, movements." This will be only the second performance of the work, conducted by Tim Salzman with the UW Wind Ensemble. Details here.

In December I'll also be starting work with Alex Dunn from Victoria on a recording of music of L.V. Beethoven, arranged for 2 guitars. These 19th century arrangements, involving terz, 6 and 8 string guitars, have been recovered and researched by Alex, and it's great to be involved. We'll be presenting several of the works in concert in Victoria January 19 and in Seattle January 27 and 28. The Seattle dates are part of the inaugural season for Musique du Jour - details here.
